Salem Man Killed in Train Collision Sunday Morning

Salem, OR — A 35-year-old Salem man was killed Sunday morning after being struck by a train in northeast Salem, according to the Salem Police Department.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene around 11:30 a.m. near the railroad tracks at the intersection of Northeast 22nd Avenue and Northeast Claxter Road. Police say the train crew spotted the man on the tracks and repeatedly sounded the horn in an attempt to alert him to the approaching train.

Despite the warnings, the man was struck and declared dead at the scene. Authorities have not released the identity of the victim.

The Salem Police Department conducted an investigation into the incident, which was completed by late afternoon. Around 5 p.m., the train was cleared to continue its route.

At this time, the cause of the man’s presence on the tracks remains unclear, and the investigation is ongoing. Police have not indicated whether foul play was involved.

This tragic incident highlights the dangers of railway crossings and serves as a reminder of the importance of safety around active tracks.
