Portland Man Arrested After Foot Chase Near Salem Hospital

SALEM, OR — A Portland man was arrested Tuesday evening near Salem Hospital after leading police on a foot chase while carrying a rifle. The incident began when the suspect was seen with the weapon outside the hospital campus. Officers quickly responded to the scene, and the man fled on foot as law enforcement closed in.

According to the Salem Police Department, officers pursued the individual, who refused to stop. In an effort to safely bring the situation to a resolution, officers deployed less lethal rounds and a police dog. The suspect eventually surrendered without further incident.

The police have not yet released the man’s identity or any details regarding the motive for carrying the rifle. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the confrontation.

Salem Police continue to investigate the incident, and the man remains in custody. Authorities emphasized their commitment to ensuring public safety while utilizing non-lethal methods in cases involving potential danger.
