Salem, OR – Thirteen dedicated K9s from Clackamas County Search & Rescue (CSAR) recently visited the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office for a special photoshoot, showcasing their skills and the vital role they play in search and rescue operations. The dogs, each highly trained in various specialties, are an integral part of the team, assisting in missions ranging from wilderness searches to detecting human remains.
The K9s—Anka, Ember, Jacqui, Joules, Karma, Luca, Nixie, Poppy, Quinley, Rook, Ryker, Storm, and Terra—are trained in a wide range of search techniques, including air-scent search, urban and wilderness trailing, and human remains detection. Their work is critical in helping locate missing persons and assist in recovery efforts in some of the most challenging environments.
The photoshoot served not only as a celebration of their hard work but also as an opportunity to honor these skilled dogs and raise awareness of their contributions to public safety. Each K9 and their handler share a bond that allows for seamless teamwork in life-saving missions, often in high-pressure situations.
“These dogs are heroes in their own right,” said one CSAR handler. “They go above and beyond every day to help us complete our missions. We’re proud of the work they do and glad we could highlight their efforts with this photoshoot.”
The Clackamas County Search & Rescue team continues to rely on the expertise of these K9s, who are not only invaluable partners in the field but also loyal companions to their handlers. Their ability to quickly and accurately track scents, detect human remains, and work in various terrains makes them an essential asset in the search and rescue community.
With their dedication and unwavering commitment, these remarkable K9s continue to make a profound impact, one search at a time.
