Salem, OR – Marion County detectives are actively investigating a shooting that occurred early Friday morning in Salem’s Northgate neighborhood, leaving a 32-year-old man with non-life-threatening injuries.
At approximately 2:30 a.m., deputies responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting on Northeast Stortz Avenue, located west of Northgate Park. Upon arrival, authorities found the victim suffering from gunshot wounds. The man was promptly transported to a local hospital for treatment.
According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, the victim’s injuries are not considered life-threatening, though his identity has not been released. Detectives have not yet made any arrests, and the investigation is ongoing.
Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Jeremy Schwab confirmed that investigators are still working to determine the exact location of the shooting and whether the individuals involved were acquainted. As of now, there is no information suggesting the shooting was a random act of violence.
“The detectives are trying to piece together the details surrounding this incident, including speaking with witnesses who may have seen or heard something relevant,” said Schwab. “We are continuing to look for additional witnesses to assist in this investigation.”
Local authorities are assuring the public that, at this time, there is no known threat to the community. However, the sheriff’s office is urging anyone with information about the shooting to contact county dispatchers at 503-588-5032.
