Man Killed in Train Collision in Salem

Salem, OR – On Sunday morning, at approximately 11:30 a.m., a man was struck and killed by a Union Pacific train near the intersection of 22nd Street and Claxter Road Northeast in Salem, Oregon. Emergency crews responded to the scene after receiving a report of a crash involving a pedestrian on the tracks.

According to police, the train crew spotted a person lying on the tracks near Hyacinth Street Northeast. Despite repeated use of the train’s horn and emergency braking, the crew was unable to avoid the collision. The victim, later identified as 35-year-old Samuel Lewis Hecocta of Salem, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A death investigation has been completed, but no further details have been released at this time.
