Portland, OR — Portland Parks and Recreation officially opened its priority requests for 2025 wedding venue reservations on January 6, drawing couples eager to secure one of the city’s most sought-after outdoor locations.
The priority application process began at 8 a.m. at the Portland Building, where dozens of hopeful couples had already gathered, some as early as 6 a.m., to line up for the chance to reserve their dream venue. Priority is given to those who apply in person, with the window for this opportunity closing at noon.
Among the most popular venues for weddings in Portland are Cathedral Park, Council Crest Park, Dawson Park, and Hoyt Arboretum—locations known for their breathtaking views and scenic surroundings. While some couples were willing to wait in line for their chance, several were hesitant to share which venues they hoped to reserve. Many feared that revealing their choices on camera might prompt others to “swoop in” and snatch up their preferred locations.
Portland’s new mayor, Keith Wilson, made a surprise appearance at the event, greeting couples in line and offering a welcome gesture by distributing donuts. His presence added a touch of local charm to the process, as he mingled with soon-to-be newlyweds in a lighthearted atmosphere.
For those unable to attend in person, starting at 1 p.m., staff began processing venue requests submitted via phone, mail, or online. In addition to securing a venue, attendees had the opportunity to meet with various vendors offering services for weddings, such as florists, photographers, and caterers.
With Portland’s parks providing some of the most picturesque settings for weddings, the demand for these spaces is consistently high, making the early morning wait an essential step for those looking to celebrate their big day at one of the city’s iconic locations.
