Salem Man Arrested After Series of Explosions Outside Southeast Salem Home

SALEM, Ore. — A 38-year-old Salem man has been arrested after allegedly setting off a series of explosions outside a home in the South Gateway neighborhood. The suspect, identified as Jason Douglas Kiser, is accused of detonating improvised explosive devices (IEDs) on three separate occasions at a property on the 5700 block of Woodside Drive SE.

The explosions took place on April 23, April 25, and April 28, 2025. Each explosion caused significant concern among residents and prompted an investigation by the Salem Police Department and the Oregon State Police Bomb Squad. Authorities say Kiser, who was familiar with the homeowner, is believed to have intentionally targeted the property with the devices.

Following the third explosion on April 28, investigators were able to identify Kiser as a suspect. On April 29, law enforcement officials arrested Kiser, and during the arrest, another IED was reportedly found inside his vehicle. Kiser is currently facing multiple charges, including three counts of reckless endangerment and three counts of criminal mischief.

The Salem Police Department has not disclosed a motive for the explosions, but the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities are working to determine whether there were any additional intended targets or if Kiser acted alone in the incidents.

The explosions have raised concerns about public safety in the South Gateway neighborhood, and local residents are being urged to report any suspicious activity to authorities. Salem police have reassured the community that there is no ongoing threat related to the case.

Kiser’s arrest marks a significant development in a case that had left many residents on edge. As the investigation continues, law enforcement officials are expected to provide additional updates regarding the case.
