Salem to Host Town Hall on Proposed Tax Levy: Community Invited to Learn More

Salem, OR – Salem residents will have the opportunity to learn about the city’s proposed property tax levy during a Town Hall event on Tuesday, April 15, at 6 p.m. The event, set to take place at the Elsinore Theatre, is designed to provide voters with clear and factual information regarding the levy, which the Salem City Council is placing before voters in the upcoming May election.

The tax levy aims to increase property taxes in order to fund various essential city services. As ballots will be mailed out to voters in late April, the May 20 election will give the public a chance to decide the future of the levy.

Les Zaitz, editor of the Salem Reporter, emphasized the importance of the Town Hall in helping voters make an informed decision. “This Town Hall will give voters a chance to directly get details about the levy – what it would cost and what it would pay for,” said Zaitz. “This is an important vote for the community, and providing clear information is the goal.”

A panel of local leaders will be on hand to present details and answer questions from the public. Panelists include Dr. Irvin Brown, a Salem City Councilor; Josh Eggelston, the city’s Chief Finance Officer; and Tom Hoffert, Chief Executive Officer of the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce.

The event is free to attend, and tickets are available online. Organizers encourage Salem residents to take advantage of this opportunity to engage directly with local leaders and learn more about the potential impacts of the tax levy on their community.

As Election Day approaches, the Town Hall promises to be a key event for those looking to cast an informed vote on the proposed property tax increase.
