PORTLAND, OR — Two people were arrested on Saturday morning after a stolen SUV collided with a police vehicle and a parked car in southeast Portland, authorities said.
The incident began just after 11 a.m. when officers responded to a report of a man and a woman possibly unconscious inside a white Jeep Grand Cherokee at Southeast 60th Avenue and Southeast Francis Street. When officers approached the vehicle, the driver, later identified as 21-year-old Kyliana S. Strickland, woke up and immediately reversed into a police car before speeding away, according to the Portland Police Bureau (PPB).
Several officers attempted to stop the vehicle using spike strips, but Strickland allegedly continued to drive recklessly, swerving through lanes and disregarding traffic signals. Despite the left front tire being punctured by the spikes and worn down to the metal rim, Strickland did not slow down.
The pursuit ended when Strickland lost control of the SUV at Southeast 34th Avenue and Southeast Insley Street, crashing into a parked car. Strickland and her passenger, 24-year-old Jacob Kyle Richardson, were taken into custody.
Police discovered that Richardson was carrying a stolen firearm in his lap at the time of the crash.
Both Strickland and Richardson were arrested on multiple charges, including theft and weapon possession. The incident remains under investigation by the Portland Police Bureau.
