Salem, OR – An 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a shooting at Clackamas Town Center on Friday that left a 15-year-old male injured. Authorities are still searching for a second suspect involved in the incident, who remains unidentified.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the shooting occurred after the 15-year-old victim and a female companion were followed by two suspects dressed in all black. The victims reportedly recognized the suspects from prior encounters. In an attempt to escape, the pair sought help from a mall employee and tried to evade the suspects, eventually returning to their car parked outside the Barnes & Noble store.
As they sat in the vehicle, the suspects approached from both sides. The affidavit alleges that Cornejo-Morales, the 18-year-old suspect, fired into the car from the passenger side, striking the 15-year-old in the hand. Eyewitnesses say the teenage victim then returned fire.
After the shooting, Cornejo-Morales fled the scene, heading east toward the I-205 multi-use path, where authorities later apprehended him near a TriMet station. Despite a search of the area, the second suspect was not located.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with police continuing their efforts to identify and apprehend the second individual involved in the shooting. The 15-year-old victim is expected to recover from the injury.
