Salem Man Dies in Fatal Accident on East Highway 22

Salem, OR — A Salem man has died after his vehicle veered off East Highway 22 on Monday afternoon. Authorities responded to the scene of the crash around 2:30 p.m. following reports of a single-vehicle accident just east of the city.

According to the Oregon State Police, the man was driving a sedan when he lost control of his vehicle, which then left the roadway and collided with a tree. Emergency crews arrived shortly after the crash but were unable to revive the driver. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The identity of the deceased has not yet been released, pending notification of family members. Investigators are working to determine the cause of the accident, though preliminary reports suggest that speed and road conditions may have contributed to the crash.

Traffic on East Highway 22 was temporarily impacted as officials conducted their investigation. The highway has since reopened, but the incident serves as a reminder of the risks posed by the region’s unpredictable winter weather.

Authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution, especially in areas prone to hazardous conditions during the colder months. Further details regarding the cause of the crash are expected to be released after the conclusion of the investigation.

This incident remains under investigation, and officials are asking anyone with information to contact the Oregon State Police.
